Alexa, play “Lucky”
Luca Nardi: It’s been a big week for Italian tennis player Luca Nardi as he became the lowest-ranked player to take down Novak Djokovic at the Masters or Grand Slam level. How did this happen? A little bit of luck pushed him towards his win. Luca had originally fallen out of contention for the Indian Wells tournament after losing his qualifying match. However, when another player pulled out of the tournament, Nardi was grabbed from ‘the lucky losers list’ and the stage was set for the 20-year-old to make history.
Sam Kerr: Sometimes a little superstition is all the luck you need. Just ask Sam Kerr, captain of the Matildas, Australia’s women's soccer team, and one of the country’s biggest athletes. In an interview with the BBC, Kerr shared some of her pregame rituals, such as always sitting in the same bus or plane seat, consuming the same dinner (bolognese pasta in a sandwich), and wearing the same pair of socks throughout a season. Listen, we’re not here to judge but we do have a few questions about that pasta sandwich?
Scout Bassett: From arriving at an orphanage in China at 18 months old to losing her right leg as a result of a chemical fire, Scout’s life has been anything but easy. Of course, none of that has stopped her from viewing herself as a “Lucky Girl”. A Paralympian and now author, Bassett recently released her book titled ‘Lucky Girl’ where she teaches ten lessons to help readers overcome some of the most difficult challenges in life today. Roger Federer: Retirement has Roger Federer aging like fine wine. Last week, the tennis legend was spotted on the red carpet at the 2024 Oscars Vanity Fair afterparty alongside his wife, Mirka, where both were absolutely serving (pun very much intended).
Jules Kounde: One of the style icons of the Champions League, Jules Kounde, showcased a memorable statement piece before securing a win against Napoli on Tuesday. The French professional footballer stunted a custom Adidas jacket designed by the creator Sophie Hird whose work focuses on up-cycling sportswear, thus reducing waste.
Aaron Judge: The Yankees captain, is now the face of Ralph Lauren's latest scent, Polo Est. 67 Eau de Toilette, and we all know picking the right scent is part of choosing a good fit. The campaign celebrates "the power of dreaming through determination and grit" similar to Judge's remarkable career. Now let’s hope that this fragrance smells as good as he looks.
