F1’s GOAT takes on the Met Gala

From the Paddock to the Met steps, F1's Fashion King, Lewis Hamilton, will be one of the chairs for fashion's Super Bowl, the Met Gala. Hamilton will be joined by Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, Pharell William, and Anna Wintour as co-chairs for the gala. Lebron James has also been named honorary co-chair of the year's biggest fashion event.

The Met Gala is held on the first Monday of May. This year's theme is "Superfine: Tailoring Black Fashion," inspired by Monica Taylor's 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. The exhibition centers on Black dandyism, a cultural and fashion movement in 19th-century Great Britain. Dandyism incorporates classic European fashion with an African diasporan influence, such as the use of Afrocentric patterns.

We are eager to see who and what Hamilton will wear when he walks up the Met steps as co-chair. But in the meantime, we can reminisce on some of Hamitlon's past looks, on and off the race track.

Our Favorite Looks

Hamilton is no stranger to the Met Gala. Last year, he attended the Met with Burberry in an outfit inspired by John Ystumllyn, a gardener and the first black person recorded in North Wales.

Sir Lewis Hamilton is no stranger to a matching set. He was seen wearing a custom Burberry matching shirt and pants at the 2023 Belgium Grand Prix. The use of purple and yellow in the set adds a modern take to a simple yet complex outfit.

The word "casual" won't be found in Hamilton's dictionary, and we are here for it. Hamilton became known for his oversized and colorful looks around the F1 paddock. Hamilton walked into the 2022 British Grand Prix sporting the oversized Bluemarble coat.

Hamilton is used to all the noise about not just his outfits but also his opinions. For the 2021 Turkish Grand Prix, Hamilton was set to make a statement. He showed up wearing a Burberry kilt. Hamilton hoped that by wearing the kilt, he could inspire others to be themselves.

Hamilton became the paddock fashion icon we know now pretty early in his career, but one outfit that put him on the map was his look from the 2017 Versace fashion show for Milan Fashion Week. He rocked a green monochromatic look, a look he would soon be known for.
