Watch What Happens Live (Alex’s Version)
This Sunday, the ladies of the USWNT took on Germany in the group play round. The USWNT dominated from the start, setting the scene for a fantastic display of athleticism, defeating Germany 4-1. However, this game was unlike any other as Alex Cooper hosted her first live viewing party.
With the help of Kaylee Hartung, a broadcaster for many different sports, Alex delivered one of the greatest live sports commentaries of all time. Her show, featuring multiple sports throughout the games, made soccer even more fun to watch. Alex’s bubbly personality was on full display, creating an entertaining and engaging banter with her co-host and guests. As a former soccer player herself (which she reminded the audience of multiple times), Alex gave fans insight into life on the pitch. She discussed her pregame ritual (consisting of baby powder in her hair and a spray tan everywhere above her shins) and her fear of headers.
The guests only enhanced the viewing experience, which we did not think was possible. The range of guests ensured that every viewer would have someone to relate to. Andy Cohen, a Bravo producer and host of his show, Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, had us laughing right along with Alex. The two discussed live shows, played a game of what Bravo Housewife would win gold in what sport, and even witnessed a goal from the US.
Next, Alex was joined by Abby Wambach and Glennon Doyle, who were just as entertaining. Abby and Glennon shared the chaos inside their house on gamedays, and Abby told tales of her time in the Olympic Village. Morgan Stewart, a fashion icon, reported live from a yacht (we cannot think of anywhere more appropriate for Morgan to be tuning in from) and shared her thoughts on the many outfits seen thus far at the games. Finally, USWNT power couple Tobin Heath and Christen Press joined, giving fans a rare glimpse into their relationship. They shared how being on the same team created healthy competition between the two and set a foundation for them to be teammates in life, business, and on the pitch.
One of the highlights of Alex’s show was her explanation of soccer. To cement how powerful and impactful the USWNT is on women’s soccer, Alex explained it in Swiftie terms in a segment called “USWNT (Alex’s Version).” The team’s debut era marks 1985 to 1991, when they won their first World Cup. Next, the Fearless era was between 1996 to 1999, marking the team's first Olympic gold. Alex then jumped to the Reputation era, from 2015 to 2019, when the USWNT won back-to-back World Cups and achieved equal pay. She ended the segment with the current day, The Tortured Poet’s Department, as the USWNT reminds the world they are the greatest of all time.
To explain the rounds of the Olympic tournament, Alex turned to Love Island. The first rounds of play, the group stage, can be compared to when you arrive at the villa. No one knows who will win, how long their journey will be, or who will walk into the villa next. The next stage is the knockout stage. As Alex explained, this is the stage where no one is safe. At any point, Ariana Maddix could tell you to pack your bags. If you pass the knockout stage, you can fight for a medal.
If you enjoy watching an Olympic match but aren’t up-to-date with the rules of the sport you are watching, this is the show for you. It truly made the game more entertaining, engaging, and fun. You will learn about sports, some of the players, and Taylor Swift will be mentioned. Alex’s next show is Thursday, August 1, at noon, where she will be cheering on Simone and Suni in the Women’s All-Around gymnastics.
You can stream Alex’s show on Peacock.
