Which NFL Team to Root For, Based on Your Fave Celeb

In less than three weeks, the NFL will finally be back. Last season, Taylor Swift’s constant appearances at the Chiefs’ games to cheer on her boyfriend, Travis Kelce brought in a new sector of viewers that will most likely be trying to catch a sighting of the pop star in the stands again this year. However, Taylor isn’t the only celebrity who’s a regular at the games. One of the most fun parts about the broadcasts is all the famous sightings there can be at a game - so if you feel like you’re finally ready to give football a chance but feel overwhelmed by having to choose the right team to cheer on, here’s a quick guide of other celebrities and their preferred teams to find one who matches your vibe.

Baltimore Ravens - Michael Phelps

As a Maryland native, it’s no surprise that the Olympic champion is a lifelong fan of his local team and has gotten to be a part of some special moments with them - like meeting legendary player Ray Lewis and becoming friends with him. Just last year, Phelps was chosen to deliver the ball for the AFC Championship game between the Ravens and the Chiefs.

Carolina Panthers - Steph Curry

Steph grew up in Charlotte while his dad played for the Hornets, which made him become a lifelong supporter of the team. When he’s not wearing his Golden State uniform, he can be seen flaunting the black and blue jersey on his social media to support his team throughout the season.

Chicago Bears - President Barack Obama

President Obama may have been born in Hawaii, but his move to Chicago not only influenced his political career by becoming a senator, it also made him a fan of the local team. He’s always been vocal about it, like when he visited Eli and Peyton “Manning Cast” to talk about the 85’ Bears, one of the franchise’s best teams in their history.

Dallas Cowboys - Post Malone

Born in Syracuse, NY but raised in Grapevine, TX, Posty has been one of the Dallas Cowboys’ biggest supporters. His father worked for their concession department, so he grew up almost as a part of the team. More recently, he has collaborated with them with an apparel merch line and even partnered up to combine his love for the team and fried chicken, opening the first Cowboys-themed Raising Cane’s.

Detroit Lions - Taylor Lautner

Taylor Swift isn't the only Taylor you'll find in the suites. Lautner, a Michigan native, has been a Lions fan for years, even during the "rough" times when the team wasn't at its best. As the team is expected to be a top contender this season, Taylor will continue to attend their games while also sporting another of Kristin Juszczyk's custom-made designs.

Green Bay Packers - Harry Styles

The British pop star was first introduced to the NFL by a friend from Wisconsin, but his Packers’ tattoo came from a wager. While discussing how he became a fan, Styles mentioned it was all because of a bet that would make him get the team logo tattooed if the Packers won their next game. Assuming they would, he got it anyway, while the team lost the next day. However, that marked his initiation as a cheesehead. Or, as he explained during the NPR interview, “When I was about six years old, I fell off my bike, and I cut my knee, and I bled green and gold, and that was it.”

Houston Texans - Simone Biles

While the GOAT might now be frequenting the Bears games supporting her husband, she was first and foremost a fan of her local city’s team, the Houston Texans. She has been rooting for them for a long time, even going as far as becoming the first honorary cheerleader of the squad and joining them during one of their games back in 2017. About this special occasion, she shared a picture of the moment on her Instagram while writing, "I had such an amazing experience cheering at the Texans Game ❤️ Definitely a memory to last forever!"

Kansas City Chiefs - Eric Stonestreet

Taylor might be the newest member of the Chiefs Kingdom, but the star of "Modern Family" has been part of the royalty all along. As a Missouri local, Eric got his first season tickets when he was just in high school, watching the legendary Joe Montana shine in Arrowhead Stadium. He's known as one of the Chiefs' biggest fans, so he tries to be present for every Chiefs milestone, including last year's Super Bowl win.

Miami Dolphins - Pitbull

You can’t be Mr. 305 and not be a Dolphins fan. As an avid supporter of the sport, Pitbull recently purchased the rights to name Florida International University’s stadium after him. He also recently shared that he predicts Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill will get the team a Super Bowl win this 2024 season. “I’m saying it right now: Miami Dolphins are going to bring it home to the 305. Super Bowl champions”. If his predictions are accurate, the Dolphins will earn their third title since the first one since their 1974 victory.

New England Patriots - Aly Raisman

Simone’s former teammate and Olympic medalist Aly Raisman is also an NFL fan, more specifically, a New England Patriots one. Even though they were the dream team during the Rio 2016 Olympics, the two members of the Final Five do not shy away from some friendly banter when it comes to it. Discussing the Patriots facing the Texans back in 2016, Aly tweeted: "Who's gonna win the game today... My @Patriots or @Simone_Biles @HoustonTexans ??? #Patriots all the way 💋❤️🇺🇸," with Simone jumping in on the joke and replying: "Sorry, but your Pats are going down @aly_raisman! Go @HoustonTexans! #BullsOnParade 💙🤘🏾❤️." The two are still good friends to this day, but when it comes to football, their favorite team will always have a special preference during game days.

Philadelphia Eagles - Taylor Swift

Taylor's constant visits to the Chiefs games in the perfect merch outfits last season must have been a difficult choice, as she has been a lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Eagles. Growing up on a Christmas tree farm in Pennsylvania made her a fan of the team, and she has even included Easter eggs in her songs. When asked about the "Gold Rush" lyrics "With my Eagles t-shirt hanging from the door," Taylor herself confirmed it on the Philadelphia stop of the Eras Tour last summer: "I saw some people wondering if it was the band The Eagles or the team The Eagles. Guys, like, come on, like, I'm from Philly; of course, it's the team." Maybe she can borrow Mama Kelce's split Chiefs/Eagles jerseys now that Jason's retired?

Pittsburgh Steelers - Snoop Dogg

National Treasure Snoop Dogg is an avid sports supporter, as we saw during his amazing coverage of the Olympics, but when it comes to the NFL, he’s a dedicated Steelers fan. He is vocal and passionate and hasn’t shied away from expressing his support for the team, which only consolidates his newly awarded title of “Sport’s Best Hype Man.” His love for the sport led him to start coaching youth football in his own league, the Snoop Youth Football League. His notable alums include Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver John Ross and former Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster.

Whether it’s because your favorite celebrity was at one of their games or you just liked the colors of their jerseys best, we hope this guide inspires you to become a fan and give the sport a chance. Not to mention, NFL WAGs always have the best game-day outfits. It’s fun to see how they come out and support their men decked in the strongest merch. It can be intimidating as a girl to join a new sports fandom, but that’s what Sportsish is here for, to guide you through it all and make it fun.
