This Weekend in Sports (ish)

Over the weekend, there was a whirlwind of thrilling sports action. It's easy to lose track of all the excitement, so here's your comprehensive recap of everything that went down. Including all the Ish!

NFL

Prince William throws the football in London (Page Six)

The Sports: Among several big games, two surprising defeats happened for two teams this past weekend. The San Francisco 49ers suffered an unexpected 24-23 loss to the Cleveland Browns, and the Philadelphia Eagles also lost 20-14 to the New York Jets.

The Ish: A royal throw! In London, Prince William attended a community visit where he played football, and those in attendance commented on his “unbelievable arm.” Louis Rees-Zammit, a former rugby player who has switched to football, was also there. He had a brief stint with the Kansas City Chiefs but has recently signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Also, at a recent Philadelphia Eagles tailgate event, Jason Kelce was interacting with fans when he was caught off guard by a man dropping to one knee to propose to his girlfriend. Fans are asking him to officiate at the wedding, but at least an invitation must be in the cards.

MLB

The Sports: The MLB postseason is in full swing with the League Championship Series underway, and it’s safe to say we’re in a New York state of mind this week. The New York Yankees claimed a 6-3 victory over the Cleveland Guardians in the second game of the series.  The Mets tied up their series 1-1 with the Dodgers and will head home for game three tomorrow night.

The Ish: Taylor and Travis were in the stands for the Yankees game! Taylor Swift returned to the stadium where she collected her honorary doctorate from NYU with Travis Kelce on her arm to watch together. The final leg of her Eras Tour starts on Friday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, and he will play for the Chiefs against the 49ers on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium in California.

WNBA

Spike Lee was court side at the New York Liberty Game (Liberty)

The Sports: The WNBA Finals are well underway now, with the New York Liberty facing the Minnesota Lynx. Game 1 was for the Lynx as they narrowly won 95-93, but the Liberty came back convincingly to win 80-66 in Game 2. Everything is still all to play for as the scores are level, and it’s difficult to tell who will take home the trophy, which makes it even more exciting to watch! Game 3 will take place on Thursday, October 17th.

The Ish: Finals mean stars appear. Ted Lasso himself, Jason Sudeikis, who has been spotted at Liberty games several times over the last couple of months, made sure not to miss the first game of the series. Famed film director Spike Lee was also there, rocking a Liberty jersey and Sabrina Ionescu sneakers, and actress Aubrey Plaza was also there in support. Some of the players on the Brooklyn Nets also came to cheer on the girls at the Barclays Center, their home court.
