The NBA Meets Vanderpump
Whenever I think of basketball, I think of how Brittany Cartwright (a reality star from Bravo's "Vanderpump Rules" and "The Valley") rebounded after her divorce from her costar, Jax Taylor, with basketball player Julian Sensley. And now with "Starting Five" on Netflix, it's time to talk about the NBA with a Sportsish twist. Because now, whenever I think of the NBA, I think about Sensely. And even though he didn't play in the NBA, it doesn't stop us from going into a "Vanderpump Rules" rabbit hole.
How cute?
Watching LeBron James and his son, Bronny James, make history this past week for being the first father-son duo to start in the NBA was such a heartwarming moment. LeBron watched Bronny grow up, learn to walk, start his basketball career, and grow into what it is now. Being part of that moment must have been a special moment. We all remember getting introduced to James Kennedy in season 3 and growing a soft spot for him. We watched him go from a messy young man who couldn't get his life together to a world-famous DJ. It might not be the same thing, but watching someone achieve their dream is an absolutely beautiful thing.
Can the Celtics do it again?
Everyone in basketball is wondering if the Celtics can win the championship this year and two-peat for the first time in almost a decade. It reminds me of when the 2023 travesty of Scandoval rocked our nation, finally died down, and the anticipation for season 11 started. Everyone's big question was, "Can season 11 have the same magic that season 10 did?" And just like in Vanderpump, we have to wait a couple of months to get all of our answers.
Where is Joel Embiid?
Everyone remembers when Stassi quit her job at SUR to move to New York during the break between seasons two and three of "Vanderpump Rules"; it was when the show lost its star. Sort of like how no one has seen the Philadelphia 76ers star, Joel Embiid, since the 2024 Paris Olympics. He missed all the pre-season games and is now missing the first week of the NBA season due to a knee injury. And because of that, it triggered one of the NBA's newer procedures of investigating why a star player missed a game. We hope to see Embiid back on the court soon.
Can the Ball Brothers turn it around?
How can we forget about the most chaotic and charismatic duo out there? No, we're not talking about the Toms; we're talking about the Ball Brothers. Like Tom Schwartz and Tom Sandoval, Lonzo and LaMelo Ball had it all, the two brothers made it to the NBA. And just like the Toms' lives, it all came crumbling down. The truth is, the Balls are injury-prone. Lonzo has been out for two seasons due to multiple knee injuries, and LaMelo had a season-ending injury after hurting his ankle last season. The brothers are back on their respective teams, and unlike the Toms, they're proving the doubters wrong. Lonzo played an impressive game with the Chicago Bulls against the New Orleans Pelicans, and LaMelo led the Charlotte Hornets to victory over the Houston Rockets. It's so good to see the Ball Brothers back on the court, and hopefully, they have a happy and healthy season.
Who to look out for?
Season six of "Vanderpump Rules" is absolute reality television gold. After a dull season five, the show pulled out all the stops to give the fans an unforgettable season. Kicking off with Katie and Stassi crashing Scheena's birthday party, to DJ James Kennedy giving us his iconic line "It's not about the pasta," and the Jax and Faith affair, that season had it all. It might be a little early in the season, but here are some teams that might end up with some gold at the end of the season: the New Orleans Pelicans, the Orlando Magic, and the Detroit Pistons.
