T-Minus 18 Days
WBB: Get ready for a rematch! After weekend wins from No.1 Iowa and No.3 LSU, both teams advance to the women’s Elite Eight where they’ll play a rematch of last season’s championship game. Last year’s game ended in favor of the Tigers with a final score of 102-85; however, it was women’s sports as a whole that really won as a record-breaking 9.9 million viewers tuned into the game. We can’t wait to see what kind of HERstory is made when the two powerhouse teams face off tonight at 7:15 pm ET.
MBB: In the men’s side of the tournament, we experienced heartbreak as No.4 Duke lost to No.11 NC State 76-64 on Sunday afternoon. Don’t get us wrong, we love a good Cinderella story but can’t help but feel sad for our real-life Troy Bolton, Jared Mccain. On the bright side, we do get to watch the Cinderella Story of NC State continue to unfold as they become just the sixth No.11 seed in tournament history to make it to the Final Four. The Wolfpack now prepares for No.1 Purdue this Saturday.
MLB: Baseball is back and in full swing, but it’s Jason Kelce who continues to capture our attention. The future NFL Hall of Famer appearance at the Phillies vs the Braves game Saturday afternoon where the former Eagles Center threw a stellar ceremonial First Pitch for the Phillies. Following Kelce’s first pitch, fellow Philadelphia legend Bryce Harper asked Jason to sign his cleat, a wholesome moment that has lived rent-free in our heads this weekend. The Phillies went 1/3 in their series against the Atlanta Braves this weekend with their win coming in a close 5-4 game yesterday.
NFL: Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice is under investigation after a Chevrolet Corvette allegedly registered in his name, became the cause of a six-vehicle collision. The accident occurred Saturday when, according to reports, the Corvette was speeding alongside a Lamborghini until one of the cars lost control and hit the middle median on the Texas highway. A witness said all occupants of the Lamborghini and Corvette fled the scene before law enforcement got involved. Authorities are currently looking to question the wide receiver as they have little to no answers regarding the incident.
HERSTORY: Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr, daughter to Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian, became the world's youngest owner of not one but TWO professional sports teams! At just two years old, Olympia is an owner of LA City FC and LA City Golf Club. We can’t say we are surprised as she follows the fabulous footsteps of her mother but man, talk about getting ahead in life.
There are three types of people in this world. Those who are excited for April because of baseball season, those who are excited for April because of Taylor Swift‘s new album, and those of us who are both, who are, in a word, sportsish. Whatever your reason, Taylor, or sports, I wish you as happy of a month as NC State’s DJ Burns Jr. is having, the March Madness star who has a permanent smile on his face as he leads his Cinderella team to the final four. Speaking of the Madness, tonight’s matchups are elite with an LSU vs. Iowa rematch and UConn taking on USC. The advancement and excitement we have seen around the women’s tournament has been gratifying to say the least. This has come as a direct result of an increase in demand and viewership. Imagine if we could do this for every women’s sport, elevate their opportunities by simply watching and supporting? To me, that defines the term, “Girl’s Girl.” So what will I be doing this April? Blasting The Tortured Poets Department while watching women’s sports, ofc. Join me!
