Happy Pride Month from U.S. Soccer!

USWNT

U.S. Soccer is not just supporting, but actively championing the LGBTQ+ community, marking a significant step in the celebration of Pride Month in June. The USWNT and USMNT are proudly donning rainbow-themed numbers, a powerful symbol inspired by the Pride flag. These unique jerseys, signed by the players, will be auctioned off, further amplifying the message of inclusivity and equality.

The You Can Play Project, a long-standing partner of U.S. Soccer, is the recipient of the auction proceeds for the sixth consecutive year. This project is not just a name, but a dedicated initiative that ensures equality, respect, and safety for all athletes, coaches, and fans, regardless of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. It's a tangible step towards creating and maintaining a safe and inclusive environment for the LGBTQ+ soccer community.

The auction will run until June 30, and fans can bid here.

The USWNT proudly showed off its new shirts and rainbow-colored numbers in its games against the Korean Republic on June 1 and June 4 under Emma Hayes's new leadership. The USMNT's upcoming games are against Colombia on June 8 and Brazil on June 12.

Despite the absence of LGBTQ+ icon Megan Rapinoe, who has retired, the USWNT continues to stand strong in its support for the community. Her influence and presence are still deeply felt within the squad, a testament to the team's unwavering commitment to inclusivity and equality in sports.

The team has continued to carry the torch in support for the community.

I think we’ve always shown the rest of the world who we are and what we stand for, and I think a lot of people have followed it too.
— Lindsey Horan

U.S. Soccer has a long history of supporting the LGBTQ+ community. Following the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando in 2016, they used the hashtag #OneNation on social media. The then USMNT captain, Michael Bradley, wore a "One Nation" rainbow armband during their game against Ecuador a few days later.

The actions of athletes with significant platforms like these are why it's crucial to continue celebrating Pride Month. Sometimes, it may feel like the world is regressing in terms of progress and acceptance, but this serves as a reminder of the need to actively strive for sports to be an inclusive environment for everyone, regardless of their sexuality.
