Athlete Looks Serve at The Met Gala

From birthday celebrations in the WNBA to iconic sisters and stunning F1 racers, the Met Gala did not disappoint with its fabulous looks. Here are some of the best looks from the sports world on the first Monday in May.

Angel Reese

Our very own Chi-Town Barbie had quite the birthday party last night, celebrating her 22nd birthday on the Met Gala Red Carpet. She made a statement in her Met Gala debut, rocking a stunning sequin mint dress from the fashion brand 16Arlington, and it's safe to say her look is a total win. Last night, Reese became the second-ever WNBA player to attend the Gala. Today, Angel Reese and the rest of the Chicago Sky will play their second preseason game against the New York Liberty.

Odell Beckham Jr.

This year, OBJ’s look was a total touchdown. He wore a black embroidered suit jacket that perfectly matched the Gala's Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion theme. His appearance came after signing a one-year contract on May 3rd, which will take the wide receiver to the Miami Dolphins for the 2024 NFL season.

Nelly Korda

The #1 LPGA player on tour just happens to be my #1 look for this year's Met Gala. Nelly Korda made heads turn with her stunning appearance at the Gala, wearing a beautiful Oscar de la Renta dress. Last night, she became the first golfer since Tiger Woods to attend the event. Korda has been performing exceptionally well both on and off the green. On April 21st, she won her fifth consecutive Chevron Championship, cementing her position as one of the greatest golfers of our time.

Ben Simmons

Brooklyn Nets' forward, Ben Simmons, wore a Thom Browne outfit along with a clock briefcase, which was in line with this year's theme. However, his choice of accessory has sparked controversy, as critics suggest that "the bag recorded more time than Ben did this season." In March, Simmons underwent back surgery for the second time in three years, which unfortunately caused him to miss most of the NBA season and prevented him from helping the Nets reach the NBA playoffs.

Dwayne Wade

Former NBA point guard Dwayne Wade and his wife Gabrielle Union’s outfits for the Met Gala were a complete slam dunk. Union wore a stunning mermaid gown designed by Michael Kors, while Wade looked dashing in a lilac-colored suit from Versace. In 2023, Wade was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and is currently a minority owner for the Utah Jazz.

Stefon Diggs

Stefon Diggs, wide receiver for the Houston Texans, attended the Gala last night, wearing a custom H&M suit made from vintage fabric. This was his second-ever appearance at the event, and he switched his uniform for couture. While some fans loved his unique look, others thought it looked like a trash bag. Diggs was previously traded from the Buffalo Bills and is set to play his first game in a Texans uniform this fall.

Venus Williams

Venus Williams hit a fashion ace with her dress, flaunting a custom-made Marc Jacobs dress covered in mirrors. She had a minor mishap while getting ready, accidentally breaking one of the mirrors while zipping up the dress. Despite her ongoing struggles with injuries on the tennis court, Williams continues to display her unwavering determination as an athlete and her grace as a person.

Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton was dressed in a Black History-inspired outfit designed by Burberry, continuing his streak of winning outfits. Lewis has the F1 record for career race victories and is tied for the most drivers' championships at seven. Whether on the race track or dressing up for events, Hamilton is a winner in our book.

Serena Williams

The tennis queen herself came dressed in a gorgeous Balenciaga gown with an equally gorgeous train. Serena truly glittered in gold all night long with this look. While we miss seeing Serena Williams serve it up on the tennis court, she is still serving it up as she finds success outside of sports. She also mentioned last month being interested in continuing her involvement in sports by potentially owning a WNBA team.
